No doubt she minimized her suffering in her letters to friends and authors, but it is remarkable that throughout it all, the Sunday Magazine continued to publish apace. As an editor she hadn’t missed a beat, and as the dauntless crusader she now returned to her many missions, which soon included the building of a presidential monument, the election of a “woman’s candidate” as president, and obtaining for Curie yet another gram of radium.45
